At nine miles long and with 6 million visitors every year, the Vatican Museums can be a little overwhelming. Get the most from your visit on our small group Vatican Museum tours, visiting the best of the Vatican Museums in just three hours with an expert, English-speaking guide to tell you about the personalities and stories behind the artwork – bringing an ancient collection to life.
We follow a carefully planned route through the Museums, visiting the most famous rooms such as the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms, plus a wide variety of galleries full of ancient sculptures, tapestries, medieval maps, paintings and precious relics.
As you travel your guide will teach you about not just the pieces you see but the stories behind them and the Vatican itself. You’ll learn about the little details in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescos – such as the painful punishments he painted for his enemies and his own personal message to the Pope. You’ll learn about the characters that walked these corridors before you as artists, Cardinals and Popes and the dramas that unfolded here.
With Skip the Line Access we’ll gain entry directly from the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica* too, so we can visit the stunning masterpieces held within. We’ll see Michelangelo’s ‘Pieta’ and the incredible altar. Not to mention the Basilica itself and its impressive dome – the construction of which threatened to rip the church in two.
Travelling in small groups of only 20 people or less and with audio headsets, your tour will be intimate and your guide easy to interact with (but hard to lose).
Our Vatican Museum tours also include No Wait Access, saving you hours of waiting in line on busy days – so your Vatican visit will be as enjoyable and hassle free as possible.
St. Peter's Basilica and other religious sites are subject to occasional closures for religious ceremonies. Appropriate dress is required for entry into some sites on this tour. Knees, shoulders and backs must be covered. Due to increased security measures at many attractions some lines may form on tours with 'Skip the Line' or 'No Wait' access.
The price is all-inclusive: Skip the Line entrance, entrance ticket, guide and tour. Our tours are classic and very comprehensive. This is a three hour tour and covers many wings of the museums including, but not limited to, ancient Greek\Roman sculpture, the Hall of Maps, the Gallery of the Candelabra and the Hall of Tapestries. For many the two highlights of our tours are the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms. From the Sistine Chapel, groups exit the Museums and end the tour at St. Peter's Basilica in St. Peter's Square. Please note that most Wednesday mornings and on special religious occasions, Saint Peter’s Basilica might be closed, and therefore not part of the tour. In that event, the tour still lasts three hours and has a more extensive visit inside the world-famous Vatican Museums.
