You’ll meet your guide and tour group at our meeting point, and head off to Giverny - travelling by comfortable, air-conditioned coach. The journey is about an hour, and your expert, English-speaking guide will give you an insight into how the day will unfold as you admire the scenic view. Upon arrival at the Fondation Claude Monet, where your guide will give you a brief but informative introduction to the estate itself, you’ll be free to explore the house and gardens at your leisure.
Monet himself lived and worked here for 43 years. As the founder of impressionist painting, Monet is well-known across the art world and wider society. His paintings of nature are outstanding and iconic, and you’ll see the gardens which inspired him so heavily. Walk around the lily pad-peppered ponds of the garden that were made famous by Monet’s own masterpieces. Admire the fabulous explosion of blooms which change depending on the season. The colors and textures here are just breathtaking, and it’s not hard to see why this talented man was so keen to capture them in his artwork.
Within the house you’ll see where and how he lived, as well as paintings which might be a bit less well-known due to not being hung in galleries across the globe and instead residing where they were created. Be sure to bring your camera, because you won’t be able to resist snapping some photographs. The ivy-clad building has been restored to look exactly as it did back then, which really is a sight to behold…
After your time at the estate itself, you can stroll around the provincial town of Giverny itself - it’s like something straight out of a fairytale, and there are plenty of quaint bars and restaurants dotted around to enjoy a spot of lunch and a nice drink before you make the journey back to Paris in the early afternoon.
