It’s not until you first lay eyes of the Sagrada Família that you truly appreciate its massive scale and myriad, minute details. With tall, spires that seem to defy gravity, countless figures from both the human and natural world, the facades of Gaudí’s most ambitious project impressive and astound over 3 million visitors per year. Today, it’s the most visited building in Spain. Your English-speaking local guide, an expert in all things Gaudí, will share insider stories and anecdotes throughout your tour, truly bringing this iconic building to life.
Begun in 1882, after more than 100 years of tireless work the church is still under construction, though it’s easy to understand why. Our guide will share tales of Gaudí’s love affair with his final work, how he considered the project his holy mission, and the great personal sacrifices he made to ensure its completion. Sadly, he would not live to see it finished. Such was the complexity of the design that despite taking on the project at 31 years of age, Gaudí only lived to see the completion of one facade, one tower, the apse, and the crypt.
Our trademark Skip the Line access will whisk you past the long entrance lines and straight into the heart of the Basilica. You’ll feel as though you have stepped into an alternate universe. Step through a heavy set of doors covered in hand-carved vines and find yourself beneath rows and rows of tree-like pillars that seem to reach up all the way to the heavens.
Your experience also includes a ticket to the very top of the church’s dizzyingly-high towers on either the “Passion” or “Nativity” facades. Your guide will see to it that you make it to the elevator, after which you’ll be free to spend time enjoying the views of Barcelona and the streets below, before heading back down. Tickets to the towers are limited, so this is a great opportunity to see the Sagrada Família from a unique perspective. Walk across high bridges between the spindly towers and inspect the colorful pinnacles and carvings close up to appreciate this monument in its complexity.
After your tour, you will be able to continue to explore the church, including the Sagrada Família museum, which features the real scale models Gaudí used to plan his famous masterpiece.
Whether you have visited the Sagrada Familia already or this is your first time, this constantly evolving masterpiece will never fail to surprise and inspire you!
