While traversing the Amalfi Coast, a visit to some of its beaches is a must, am I right? Given that they can be difficult to find and access due to the sharp cliffsides, we’ve compiled a list of the best beaches to visit throughout. With over twenty beaches along the Amalfi Coast, we’re sure there’ll be a few that’ll become favorites on your trip!
Positano
Laurito – A tiny beach in Positano, it can be reached from a steep flight of steps in the square beside Hotel San Pietro. Alternatively, you can take a boat shuttle from Positano’s main pier to get there. Divided into free and private beaches, it is the home to two beach restaurants. Fun fact: its name derives from the collection of laurels that grow in the area. Quiet and secluded, you can rent a deck chair for the day to relax in the sunshine.
Arienzo – Located several minutes outside Positano in the direction of Amalfi, you can get to Arienzo beach by bus or on foot. You’ll witness incredible scenery while venturing to this beach, surrounded by villas and greenery. On this beach, there are private and free zones, which you can choose from at your leisure. You can spend the day gazing upon clear blue waters and stunning views from every angle.
Spiagga Grande – This is Positano’s main and most popular beach, which presents a spacious capacity and a lively atmosphere. 300 meters in length, it houses a number of bars, restaurants and one famed club named Music on the Rocks. The center of Positano’s social hub, you’ll be able to see the Li Galli Islands, Saracen sighting towers and majolica tiled buildings from this beach.
Praiano
Furore Fiord – A mere 25 meters long, this beach can be located opposite the sleepy fishing village of Furore. Originally used for commercial craft, it is now seen as one of the Amalfi Coast’s most fascinating features. It’s advisable to visit this beach during the early hours of the morning, as this is when it receives sun. Despite this, you can go there at any stage, as it’s one of the few beaches that doesn’t get too hot during the day.
Marina di Praia – This beach can be found close to Torre al Mare and is the starting point to one of the Amalfi Coast’s most romantic coastal walks. Home to several restaurants and the Amalfi Coast’s most fashionable dance club, Africana, it’s an assured visit on any beach venture.
Gavitella – Famed for its incredible view of the Li Galli Islands, Capri and Positano, Gavitella beach has another challenging descent with a steep flight of stairs to take to reach it. You can also take the shuttle boat if clambering down the steps isn’t your thing. Privately owned, it’s been extended over time to provide more space for visitors, and has a restaurant close by that serves both lunch and dinner.
Amalfi
Castiglione – Surrounded by cliffs on three sides, Castiglione beach is an ideal spot to top up your tan on a sunny morning. With central bathing and free areas to visit throughout, you can see stunning views of the Church of St Maria Maddalena in Atrani. It gained its name from the Hamlet of Castiglione, as well as from the town of Ravello, well-known for its villas and classical music shows.
Atrani – We’ve got another fun fact for you! Atrani is the smallest town in all of Italy, and with it comes a similarly small beach. It can be found opposite this minuscule town and is divided in two by the Dragone river. Here, you can rent beach umbrellas and sun beds to bask in comfort while sunbathing or post-swim.
Maoiri & Minori
Erchie – One of the most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast can be found in Erchie, a little fishing village close to Maoiri. Found between two Saracen towers, their original purpose was to warn away pirate attacks in the past. Perfected with stretches of free space and several restaurants, you’ll get to enjoy a clean space with sparkling waters, with sunlight until the late afternoon.
Maoiri & Minori – One of few sandy beaches along the Amalfi coast, Maoiri is one of the longest at 930 meters. With free space at either end, you can buy refreshments from kiosks throughout the beach. Minori beach receives sunshine for the majority of the day, as it faces south. It’s also home to one of the best pastry shops along the Amalfi Coast, Salvatore de Riso. We can’t help but recommend getting some to sample as you spend your day by the water!
Vietri sul Mare
La Baia & Le Crespella – Located close Salerno’s busy port, La Baia beach has been established as a family favorite for years on end. With almost all-day sunshine and numerous bathing facilities throughout, it’s the perfect place to spend the day. La Crespella is a quieter beach with private bathing establishments. It’s guarded by a tower from the 16th century, which looks out onto Vietri sul Mare’s famed sea stacks, Due Fratelli.
