Tour Description

If your vacation is based in Florence but you don’t want to miss out on stunning Venice, why not join our perfectly planned day trip to Venice from Florence? This tour will allow you to experience the city in its full grandeur. Traveling comfortably by high-speed train, you can maximize your time in this incredible city.

Upon arriving at the Venice train station, our team member will take you on a private water taxi for a panoramic cruise from the train station to Rialto. Through the waterways is when Venice really shines. The canals are much better suited to the water taxis, as it allows us to move quickly and easily throughout the canals. During the water taxi experience, we cover the Grand Canal, getting yet another perspective of this fascinating city. At Rialto, your expert guide will be waiting to meet you. They will unveil the Floating City’s most sought-after sights as you enjoy Skip the Line Access to St. Mark’s Basilica and Special Access to the Basilica’s terraces.

You’ll start your discovery of Venice with a 2-hour guided tour on foot as you weave your way around the twisting back streets, cobbled courtyards and small arched bridges, your expert guide will regale you with tales from Venice’s colorful past. Discover why the city was built on a lagoon, how it came to be an important center of trade, and what contributed to the end its domination over much of the Mediterranean.

You’ll walk by Marco Polo’s house and hear about how the Venetian merchant set off to sea one day and returned with tales of faraway eastern lands that few in those days had ever seen.

Stroll across the piazzas of Campo SS Giovanni e Paolo and Campo Santa Maria Formosa, where Byzantine, Renaissance, and modern elements fuse together their timeless portraits of the city. Catch a glimpse of the famed Bridge of Sighs, said to be named after the sighing prisoners as they were escorted across the canal to the cells of the prison closeby.

After marveling at the elegance of St. Mark’s Square, which Napoleon fondly described as the “finest drawing room in all of Europe,” we’ll breeze past the entry lines and gain instant access to St. Mark’s Basilica. Together with your guide, you’ll uncover the diverse treasures inside the basilica, including the dazzling gold-laden mosaics that adorn its domed interior and ceilings. Having saved time with our privileged Skip the Line Access, we’ll also manage to squeeze in a climb up to the famous terraces of St. Mark’s. Rarely included on guided tours, these terraces offer beautiful views over the piazza and the rooftops beyond.

After that, you'll have around 3 hours to enjoy Venice at your own pace. Your guide will offer advice on the best local restaurants to try for lunch, or you may want to sample the famous Cicchetti. Similar to tapas, they taste the most delicious when paired with a glass of Prosecco.

After your free time, you will be free to either take a vaporetto to come back to the train station (tickets are included) or take a leisurely walk back, taking in the sights as you go. Then, we board our high-speed train for our return to Florence.
