Travel to the Tuscan Countryside
Your day starts in Florence by meeting your group at Piazza dell'Unità Italiana. You will join your English-speaking Tour Leader on board your bus and travel to the World Heritage town of Siena which is famous for the biannual street horse race which has been held here since the 17th century. Along the way to this medieval town, your guide will tell you all about the town history and its intriguing race traditions such as the “move” which encourages jockeys to hinder their rivals. When you arrive in Siena you will have free time to explore the narrow streets of the old town.
Visit Siena and Piazza del Campo
After a brief orientation to the red-bricked city, you can stroll around the town, maybe visit the magnificent Duomo di Siena which stands out with its white and greenish-black marble facade. Or marvel Piazza del Campo, once the center of the town’s political activity, and now the site of the famous Palio horse race.
Stroll Around San Gimignano
You will then board your coach again and make your way to San Gimignano. Your journey will take you through the idyllic Tuscan countryside, with its rolling hills, famous vineyards, and the ever-present Cypress and Olive trees. From your coach, you should be able to spot the famous skyline of the San Gimignano tower houses from a distance. When you arrive, you’ll have free time to enjoy the town, to explore the narrow streets and admire the architecture of this unique UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its medieval houses and encircling walls. Your Tour Leader will be able to assist you on how to spend your free time, where to have lunch and even where to find the best gelato! We will also treat you to a glass of local wine with some wild boar salami, so you can have a true flavor of what Tuscany is all about!
Take a Picture of the Leaning Bell Tower of Pisa
Hop-on back your coach and enjoy a tranfer to Pisa, here you will have free time at the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles) to take pictures in front of the infamous Leaning Tower of Pisa. This bizarre landmark owes its extreme tilt to the soft ground that it was built upon, which was unable to support the weight of its foundation. Though the building was eventually stabilized in the 20th century, it still maintains its unusual slant today.
You will also have time to explore the lesser-known Duomo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Baptistery before your driver returns you to Florence. These two buildings are architectural masterpieces which boast elaborate medieval facades, stunning frescoes, and patterned marble details.
After you’ve seen the main sights of Pisa, head back to Florence in your private transport with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day!
