Trafalgar Square View in a sunny day

Trafalgar Square

Formerly known as Charing Cross, this is one of Central London’s most iconic tourist attractions. Home to the National Gallery, with Nelson’s Column at its center flanked by two beautiful fountains, it’s the site of many celebrations and public gatherings.

Changing of Horseguards

Horse Guards

Only the Queen is allowed to drive through the central archway of this famous landmark unless one possesses a special pass card. Originally these cards were made of ivory. Now they are plastic and more humane. From here, enjoy the Household Calvary in their plumed helmets upon their noble steeds.

Entrance door of 10 Downing Street in London

Downing Street

Home to the British Prime Minister and other notable dignitaries for over 300 years, this central London street was built in the 1680s by Sir George Downing and has been the site of many notable films and historical milestones.

Tour Description

Stroll through the heart of London and enjoy the world-famous monuments while creating vacation memories to last a lifetime. A relaxing walking tour with an expert local guide, make the most out of your precious and limited vacation time rather than trying to see it all on your own. Enjoy lively and entertaining commentary about sights like Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street and Whitehall, while having enough time at each location to stop and soak in the scenery. No quick drive-bys typically offered by other tour operators, City Wonders has crafted an experience like no other for travelers who appreciate ample time in every location. And do it all in a single afternoon.

Starting at the home of the National Gallery and Nelson’s Column, explore Trafalgar Square before proceeding down Whitehall, the center of Her Majesty’s Government. Lined with government departments and ministries, this recognizable street has been seen in many films and television shows. Pass the old Palace of Whitehall which burned down in the 17th century, leaving only the Banqueting Hall still standing, and hear how this was the location from which King Charles II stepped onto the scaffolding to be executed in 1649. Then, enjoy a view of the Horse Guards in their sentry boxes, mounted on their magnificent steeds in their feathered silver helmets.

Next we head past the home of the British Prime Minister on Downing Street before arriving at Parliament Square. Photograph yourself in front of Big Ben and take in the majesty of the Houses of Parliament and the Palace of Westminster. From here we stroll past Westminster Abbey, which you will instantly recognize from televised royal events such as the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the recent wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

We’ll finish the afternoon with a spot of traditional English tea. Wind down in a luxury hotel with scones, jam and clotted cream, sandwiches and cakes, all served on fine china. It is a relaxing way to end a lovely London day.
