Paris is well-known for its incredible gourmet food scene, and you can get in on the action as part of this incredible food tour around the historic Louvre area of the city. In a group of 12 people or fewer, accompanied by an expert, English-speaking tour guide, you’ll visit some iconic foodie hotspots and learn about some famous French foods - complete with the opportunity to taste some, of course!
Meet your tour group and begin your day like a local! Our first stop is an authentic French bakery, where you’ll get to taste some buttery French “viennoiseries” (such as “croissants”or “pain au chocolat”). As well, taste the famous baguette “Jambon Beurre," one of the French people’s favorite “on-the-go” meals, a ham sandwich made of the fresh UNESCO listed baguette (of course) sliced open, spread with salty butter and filled with slices of delicous ham.
The area you’re in is home to what used to be Paris’ central food market, and as such there is a lot of history here; your guide will be sure to share it all with you as you tuck in.
Your next stop is one of France’s most acclaimed French pastry shop and chocolatiers, where you’ll learn all about France’s colorful little macarons - which were actually introduced by the Italian chef of Queen Catherine de Medici during the Renaissance. Taste these tiny sweet treats, and listen as you hear all about the Meilleur Ouvrier de France, which is a unique and prestigious award granted to the best French craftsmen every four years.
On your way to your next location, you’ll see the Caves du Louvre which were built by King Louis XV’s sommelier, Trudon, in the 18th century. Stop number 3 on this foodie extravaganza is a cheese shop where you’ll get to sample plenty of different cheeses from a country which is so renowned for this particular type of food.
Once your taste buds have been properly acquainted, you will have time to enjoy a sit-down meal at one of our favorite wine bars — a place completely and utterly dedicated to wine lovers. You’ll get to sample authentic cheese and charcuterie with some excellent French wine to go with it.
Getting to our last stop requires a stroll down Rue Montorgueil, where we’ll see Stohrer - the pastry shop of King Louis XV himself. But our final stop is, another award-winning, French chocolate & pastry shop, a multigenerational family-run business that created a very special brioche which you will be sure to enjoy and remember!
