Join our Pére Lachaise Paris cemetery tour and explore the art, music, history and culture of the city, hearing about the characters that made Paris the city it is today. Located just a few minutes outside of central Paris, in the 20th arrondissement, it offers a rare slice of calm, with beautiful crypts dotted along tree-lined paths.

Join our expert, English-speaking guides on an exploration of this historic spot, hearing the stories behind the headstones. You’ll visit the grave of Jim Morrison and hear how this American musician (made famous as the lead singer of The Doors), ended up in an unmarked Paris grave. Of course it’s not unmarked anymore. Morrison’s grave has become a place of worship, attracting music fans from all over the world who come and leave their mark.

We’ll visit the grave of controversial Irish writer Oscar Wilde, whose monumental grave is covered in lipstick kisses. You’ll see the resting place of classical musician Chopin and visit the grave of Gertrude Stein, the famous American writer, who funded and supported artists like Picasso and writers like Hemingway.

As well as international icons, we’ll visit some of France’s most celebrated artists and writers. At the grave of Géricault you’ll see a reproduction of his famous painting, ‘The Raft of Medusa’ which hangs in the Louvre today, and hear the harrowing tale that inspired his masterpiece.

We’ll explore the writings and philosophies of Honoré de Balzac and Marcel Proust, discuss the off-beat humour of Molière and even visit the grave of George-Eugène Haussman, the architect responsible for Paris as you see it today. We’ll also pay homage to France’s darling singer Edith Piaf, the story of whose difficult life you won’t soon forget.

There’s a touch of the romantic about Pére Lachaise cemetery, with its quiet pathways and hidden nooks. Our Paris cemetery tour explores this when we visit the grave of Abelard and Heloise, France’s original Romeo and Juliet whose controversial love affair still sets tongues wagging today, almost a thousand years after their deaths.

Join us on our adventure through the artistic heart of Paris, stepping away from the busy streets to visit a time of art, literature and philosophy. With an expert, English-speaking guide to lead you through the maze, telling you the stories buried beneath your feet, you’ll get a glimpse of a different, more romantic city.
