Wander through Car-Free Montepulciano

You’ll leave Rome aboard a comfortable air-conditioned coach. As you drive through the Tuscan hills, your English-speaking tour leader will fill you in on the rich culture which originated in the pre-Roman Etruscan civilization.

Our first stop is the hilltop town of Montepulciano, for a walking tour with a local guide. You’ll discover narrow streets, theatrical clock towers and ancient wine cellars in this car-free town.

Immerse yourself in the sound of chanting monks*

From there, we'll cruise into a secluded valley of sun-kissed wheat-fields, olive groves, and cypress trees to the picturesque Sant'Antimo Abbey. Nestled in peaceful surroundings, this is a 12th-century Romanesque masterpiece with exquisite decorations inside. To add to the atmosphere, you’ll explore the abbey while listening to the deep sounds of chanting monks.

*November and December travellers will attend San Biagio Church and marvel the renaissance architecture of this beautiful Church in Montepulciano from the outside.

Feast on delicious Tuscan food and wines

Having worked up an appetite, you'll have lunch with your group surrounded by vineyards in Montepulciano. You’ll discover why this is Italy’s most renowned wine region as you enjoy a traditional 3-course lunch, with a local wine pairing including the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino wines.

Explore the ideas of the Renaissance

You can buy a signature wine here or wait until Pienza – the UNESCO World Heritage village which was completely redesigned by Pope Pius in the 15th century. It became the template for Renaissance towns in Europe. You have just the right amount of time to explore Pienza and shop for local food and wines, take photographs and eat gelato.
