Experience arguably Italy’s most beautiful region on our Tuscany day trips from Rome. In just one day we’ll show you the best of all that is Tuscan. You’ll take a guided tour of a traditional hill town, visit a secluded abbey, experience local food and wine at a beautiful vineyard, and even have time to shop for regional specialties.
For many visitors, Tuscany embodies the Italian ideal – rolling hills, thriving vineyards, delicious locally produced foods and picturesque towns surrounded by ancient walls. But the logistics of organizing a day trip make it difficult. We take care of everything by providing round-trip transportation and organizing every detail so you can relax and enjoy your Tuscan experience.
You’ll leave Rome aboard a comfortable air-conditioned coach with an expert, English-speaking City Wonders tour leader. As you drive through the hills of Tuscany they’ll fill you in on the rich history and culture that make this region so special.
Our first stop is Montepulciano where you’ll meet an expert local guide who will lead you on a walking tour of this beautiful ancient town. You’ll discover ruins that pre-date Rome, picturesque town squares and even an ancient wine cellar still in operation.
Then we’re back on the bus for our next stop – a visit to Sant'Antimo Abbey. Nestled in a beautiful valley, this medieval stone church is an architectural masterpiece. You will be able to explore this truly unique setting to the sounds of Gregorian chants in a simple yet evocative setting.
Having worked up an appetite we’ll travel the short distance to one of the highlights of our day – lunch! We’ve found the perfect spot for your culinary experience in a farmhouse surrounded by vineyards. Here you’ll enjoy a 3-course traditional lunch, with a tasting of five wines (some of which come from the vineyard) including world-famous Brunello di Montalcino. Commentary from our expert guide will help you appreciate what you’re drinking and just what it is that makes this Italy’s most renowned wine region.
You’ll have time to buy wine here, or you can hold off for our next stop – Pienza. Your tour leader will give you advice on what to see and where to shop, then set you loose for 45 minutes to explore and photograph this Renaissance gem. They’ll recommend the best stores for local pecorino cheese, balsamic vineagar and wines, or just follow your nose to one of the countless artisan shops.
The best thing is that you will be able to relax on your way back to Rome after such a long and memorable day. With all the hassle taken out of your Tuscan adventure only one task remains – planning your return. Once you have a taste, one visit is never enough!
