Spend the day in Tuscany
Step away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and head to Tuscany for the day in your own private group. If you want to see the best of what Tuscany has to offer in just one day, then this is the ideal tour. You will have a private driver for the entire day, who will pick you up at your hotel and drop you off, if requested; you’ll travel in comfort and style in an air-conditioned vehicle.
Your tour leader will have you in Tuscany by mid-morning, ready to enjoy your day in this beautiful region. This tour has been created with social distancing and safety regulations in mind - guests will be required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer on the journey from Rome to Tuscany, and masks are obligatory indoors too. While these areas are usually packed with visitors, Italy is quieter than ever right now and it is the ideal time to explore the Tuscan streets without the crowds.
Visit the Val D’Orcia region
This 11-hour private tour will take you to Montepulciano, an ancient Etruscan town, first of all. Here you can explore medieval wine cellars that are still used today, and admire the exposed brick Duomo that makes for the perfect photo spot both outside and in. You’ll see Punch’s Tower, where Punch strikes his bell from the clock tower every hour - and your tour leader will be sure to advise you on where to eat and drink in Montepulciano, as this is where you’ll enjoy your lunch. There is plenty of time for exploring and souvenir shopping here before you head back to the car to continue your Tuscan adventure.
The next stop of this tour is St. Biagio’s Church. This 16th-century Renaissance church is a true masterpiece, with a travertine facade that glistens in the sunshine. It rests just below the town of Montepulciano and is said to have inspired the design of St. Peter’s Basilica. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the church’s architecture and admire the stunning scenery all around it.
Prepare for Pienza
The next stop is Pienza, and during the journey your guide will tell you everything you need to know about this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site. Listen to stories about its conception, and find out where you might want to visit upon your arrival: the two Renaissance palaces or the breathtaking Duomo, for example. You’ll have free time to explore when you get there, so it is up to you to decide how you want to spend your time. From the winding streets of this beautiful town to the rolling hills surrounding it, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the best views.
Before you leave, be sure to pick up some pecorino cheese, Pienza’s most important produce. Then head back to the car and embark on the return journey to Rome, satisfied after a day of exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside in your group.
Please note that due to current Covid-19 restrictions and new safety policies, all customers will be required to wear a mask at some points during City Wonders tours such as during car journeys. Hand sanitizer will be provided before and after the journey. Thank you for your cooperation.
