Tour Description

Join us for a unique guided visit to the Vatican getaway just 15 miles south of Rome. On our tours of the Pope’s Summer Residence, you’ll visit the highlights of this stunning palace and have the opportunity to choose from two unique experiences: a delicious lunch featuring products from the Pope’s private farm or an afterhours tour of the palace.

Meet your group in Rome before embarking on a 1-hour private coach ride to the town of Castel Gandolfo. As the city streets of Rome give way to lush forested hills, you’ll begin to feel the enchantment of this area. Sealed off from Rome’s noise and chaos and surrounded by natural beauty, it’s no surprise that this is the sanctuary where Popes have come to unwind for centuries.

An official Vatican guide will welcome you to the Apostolic Palace for an insider’s look at the rare treasures contained within, including an exclusive visit to the Papal Apartments. There you will see the Pope’s private bedroom, study, and chapel. Your exploration of this remarkable complex, often referred to as the ‘Second Vatican’, culminates in a breath-taking view of Albano Lake from the Papal Terrace.

Continue for a stroll covering the best of the Barberini Gardens, including the impressive ruins of an imperial theatre, the ancient ‘crypto-portico’ covered passageway, and the Path of Roses. Built over the ruins of Emperor Domitian’s villa, this Renaissance masterpiece is nothing less than spectacular. Finish your tour with views of the Belvedere Gardens that sweep to the lake.

Enjoy a Lunch Fit for a Pope

If you select our “with lunch” option, you’ll be treated to the same exclusive, organic products that go straight to the Papal table from the Pope’s private farm. This delicious spread includes speciality cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta, fresh produce, and more. Afterwards, you’ll have the chance to buy some of these delicious products to take back to Rome as a souvenir!

Discover the Summer Residence Afterhours

Beat the summer heat and crowds with our “afterhours” option: our special Vatican partnership allows us to offer you a opportunity to visit the Summer Residence after closing, when it’s open exclusively to our group. On this tour, you’ll get to explore all of the highlights of this stunning palace after the tourists have gone home.

No matter which option you choose, your tour of the Pope’s Summer Residence is gauranteed to be an unforgettable experience.
