1. Angelina
Located just steps away from the Trevi fountain, Angelina is ideal for adding a touch of romance to a day in Rome. Open from 8AM right through until midnight, you can get everything from a delicious breakfast to a wholesome evening dinner, perfect for polishing off a day in the city. Angelina has two other sites in Rome, in Testaccio and Porto Fluviale, so there’ll always be one somewhat close by. In terms of what they serve, they work to create a blend of traditional Italian cuisine with the utmost freshness of a newly prepared meal. Within the restaurant itself, it was previously a laboratory of medicinal plants, giving an almost greenhouse-like feel to every visit. With beautiful food and even better interiors, Angelina is top of our list for sure!
2. Alle Fratte di Trastevere
Buried deep in beautiful Trastevere, Alle Fratte di Trastevere can be found on the banks of the river Tiber. Upon entering, you’ll instantly feel as though you’ve stepped back in time to 18th-century Rome, with distinctive and eye-catching trompe l’oeils lining the walls. Honing in on traditional Neapolitan and Roman dishes, they serve some traditional Italian favorites: delectable pizzas and pastas, bruchetta, and a range of delicious seafood dishes. We’re going to be real here: there’s little point in going to Alle Fratte di Trastevere unless you’re willing to try some of their seafood, as they’re the dishes that they’ve become well-known for in the best wat. Something tells us that you won’t regret it!
3. La Carbonara
On the hunt for comfort food? Look no further than La Carbonara. Founded back in 1906, it’s now established as one of the most famous restaurants in Rome. With a wide range of traditional favorites, hearty portions of pasty are their specialty. And for the best prices, too! If you’re on a lookout for their dinner hours, the sweet spot is between 7 and 11PM. Be sure to book a table ahead of time, as it’s not uncommon to experience long lines or get turned away if you plan on going on short notice. That’s how you really know a restaurant is popular and a firm favorite, don’t you agree?
4. Supplizio
If something a little different is on the cards for your time in Rome, Supplizio is the place to be. Supplizio specialize in quick and easy street food. We know what you’re thinking, but never fear – they wouldn’t dream of sacrificing taste or quality despite this. One of their most well-known bites are supplì, which are a deep-fried ball of rice with different fillings, such as tomato sauce, mozzarella, vegetables, chicken or cheese. Both filling and delicious, Supplizio (hence the name) have become very well-known for their tasty produce. Easy to take on the go or for sharing with friends, supplì a refreshing alternative to the sit-down dinners we all know and love. If you’ve got a bit of a junk food craving, we recommend giving them a try!
5. Otaleg
Simply ‘gelato’ backwards, Otaleg is known for having some of the best gelato in Rome. Located in the beautiful Trastevere, they try to satisfy a variety of tastes by providing all of the classics, seasonal favorites, and some inventive creations of their own for a unique twist. All of the gelato is made on-site, so you know you’re getting the real deal. It can be easy to be fooled into buying expensive “gelato” from the tourist traps around the city, but know that you’re getting the real, delicious deal at Otaleg.
