Welcome to one of Europe’s richest and most unique stately palaces. Venice was once known as the 'Most Serene Republic' and was the greatest sea power in the Mediterranean of its time. Though the city itself is small, its power and influence stretched well over the horizon to the Ottoman Empire and Asia.
The nerve center of this vast political and military entity was the Doge’s Palace itself, home to the city’s supreme authority, the courts that mandated law, as well as a series of prisons for its worst offenders. The palace is a rich mix of architectural styles that has been coined Venetian Gothic. Whether it's the subtle Byzantine and Islamic influences or the mesmerizing iconography it hosts, an aura of mystery surrounds its lace-like facade.
Inside you will explore over 1,000 years of Venice’s history and uncover the intriguing stories that lay silent in halls decorated in the finest art of its day, including masterpieces by Tintoretto and Titian. City Wonders takes you inside to discover its treasures on our Best of Venice and Doge’s Palace and Doge’s Palace Secret Itineraries tours.
