Tour Description

If Stonehenge has been on your bucket list there’s no better way to spend a day in the English countryside than on this relaxing City Wonders excursion. This tour offers something for everyone, ancient archeological marvels full of mystery and intrigue mixed with romantic scenery brought to life in ways only Jane Austen could have imagined. If you have sought to fulfill a lifelong ambition to see the prehistoric stone circle of Stonehenge and the surrounding English countryside, this is the only way you should do it. Our local guides will be with you every step of the way to give you the best insight, not offered by the other, hop on hop off, drive by tours from London. By starting bright and early in the morning and limiting our groups to 25 people or fewer, we are able to provide the most relaxing tour experience by beating the crowds so that you can have a longer more intimate outing.

We begin with a visit to Bath to figuratively cleanse your soul of the hustle and bustle of London. This Georgian town was founded on a thermal spring and became historically famous for its Roman baths (hence its unusual name). Eventually becoming the home of acclaimed author Jane Austen, the influence of this beautiful city is apparent in her novels, now movies, and inspired her greatly. This is your chance to see why. In fact, two of her most famous books were set in this city – Persuasion and Northanger Abbey. Your expert local guide will take you on a walking tour of the major sites and secret spots before you are provided with free time to explore on your own. Visit the Roman baths built in 70 A.D., visit the Jane Austen center, or amble around the artisanal shops and cafés. It’s completely up to you!

Next we take a short, relaxing ride on a private coach as you enjoy the panoramic scenery sweeping by until we arrive in Lacock. Here you'll have free time for lunch in this quaint, quintessentially English village in the Cotswolds, strolling past the honey-colored stone homes and make your way through the streets where time has stood still. You can choose to dine on an authentic English lunch in a historic pub in this 13th century village owned by the National Trust. Lined with cobblestone and dotted with historical detail, this area has been the location of films such as Pride and Prejudice as well as Harry Potter.

After this tranquil beginning we’ll continue through the English countryside to our final, most awe-inspiring stop of the tour – Stonehenge. One of the Wonders of the World, this still incomprehensible prehistoric stone structure was built between 3000 and 2000 B.C. Now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the surrounding valley, the area has been recently restored back to its unaltered, original landscape. Marvel at the magnificence of this rock formation and wonder why and how it was erected. Enjoy one of England’s greatest archaeological mysteries while you hear different stories, research, and theories from your expert local guide as to what purpose the stones may have served. You will have free time to visit the museum and the new visitor center. The new visitor center is just a short trip via shuttle bus from the monument, allowing visitors to ponder about the stories of how they may have been built and what they were once used for.

It is an experience for which others wait a lifetime, leaving unforgettable memories - an astounding way to complete your day in the English countryside before heading back to London with plenty of time to enjoy the nation’s thriving capital. View our full list of Day Tours from London.
