With such a prestigious drink, limitations were put in place to protect the Champagne Regions elite reputation. To call your sparkling wine Champagne, there is a long list of rules set out by the Comité Interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne. For starters, your champagne has to come specifically from the Champagne region of France, but there is also a set of requirements that control how these grapes are grown that will go on to produce the Champagne.
