In just 2.5 hours, you’ll be able to see those iconic edifices and works of art that contribute to Rome’s magic. Your expert, English-speaking guide will share the details and stories that make these extraordinary sights come alive. And, on this private tour, you’ll be able to focus on those that most interest you!
The historic center of Rome is often called an “outdoor museum” because many art and architectural masterpieces can be seen just walking down its streets. Among these is the Trevi Fountain – considered the most beautiful Baroque fountain in the world. Although many people are familiar with the legend that tossing a coin in the fountain will guarantee your return to Rome, not many know the stories and secrets behind its construction. The centerpiece of the Piazza Navona is Bernini’s Fountain of Four Rivers with its giant statues of sea gods. There are tales about its construction as well, including a fierce rivalry with another sculptor. While enjoying the Spanish Steps, you’ll learn how they got their name, and, while marveling at the incredible architecture of the Pantheon dome, you’ll learn the truth about the artist Raphael’s death.
Our guides are trained experts in the art and history of the city they know and love so well and will make you as passionate about Rome as they are. In just 2.5 hours, you’ll enjoy an in depth, insider’s walking tour of Rome’s historic center, visiting its most famous sights – many of them immortalized in movies - and some “off the beaten path” sights with their own intriguing tales.
What would a tour or Rome be without “dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing)? You’ll enjoy stopping with our guide for the coffee break including a gelato, or a hot drink, or soft drink and conversation that Italy is known for, discussing sights you’ve seen…or just relaxing. And don’t forget to toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain – you’ll definitely want to return to Rome!
We have been informed that there will be ongoing restoration work on (or to the buildings surrounding) the Spanish Steps, this will cause some visual disturbance and will affect the viewing and photo opportunities of these monuments.
